Blog EntryPHOTOGRAPHY THESIS PROPOSAL. Which?Jun 20, '08 11:46 AM
for everyone
guys, manghihingi lang ako ng suggestion...

1. jazz dance photography or
2.exaggeration/satirical situational comedy photography???

these are thesis proposals.

both are fine for my thesis adviser but i cannot finalize my decision. pls. help me =).

added info, our final product for photography thesis is a coffee table book containing shots of our desired topic.

which do you think is more marketable?

sagot ng aking friends:

Tim:
I would still go for the situational one. But make sure you focus on just one area of life. Life.... perhaps marriage or School life

Josephine:
    comedy

Klif:
hmmm san k ba mas maraming source? i think jazz dance photography mas maganda, ayun.

Jessica:
ok yung jazz kasi it speaks more about yourself. pero ok din yung exaggeration kasi it's something new kaso sa tingin ko, mas bebenta yung jazz photography rather than your other proposal.

Jason Tolin:
    2nd.

Geli:
comedy! challenging un kasi me emotion n kelangan k ireach out s audience mo and its quite interesting. and another thing is how do u get ur audience involved or get in touch with the "comedy" in ur photos.

Allister:
     jazz dance na lang

Tintin:
both are marketable..... however.. choose sumthing that u know on the long run...hnd ka mgsasawa

Robert John:
comedy. dance is so gas gas. sobrang dali kunan. sagot ko ung jazz dance. me bibili nun. pero kung mgagawa nyo ng maayos ung concept. panalo un.

Lori:
     jazz dance

Albert:
    sit com boi

Benedict:
jazz dance maganda kuhaan pero mas may challenge ung isa

JM:
    jazz dance photo mukhang mgnda.

RJ:
go with the exaggerated/satirical situational comedy.

i'd go for the second one... kasi madami na gumawa nung jazz.. kaya mo yan.. mas hit ang sitcom.. really.. ;p

second one. mas accessible kasi ung comedy at situational (so mas pwede mong paglaruan ung expression). unlike sa Jazz - feeling ko - masstuck ka sa isang genre. Yun nga lang, ang dilemma will be, you need to make sure that you capture the emotion at the right place and time.

mas challenging yata ang sitcom kasi:
1. hindi madali maipakita sa photos kung nakakatawa o hindi (some things we consider funny are grotesque to others)
2. hindi pa yata marami ang gumagawa nito --- kaya wala pang modeling masyado for styles;
3. kailangan kunin mo yung tipo ng comedy or satire that cuts across classes - meaning, kayang i appreciate ng mga nag pupunta sa the Fort at nung mga nag pupunta sa Divisoria.. :D
4. kailangan mong i -gauge kung ang sense of comedy mo ay ganun din sa ibang tao (this is linked to your work being marketable or not later on...)
5. Filipinos, by nature, are a funny bunch so di sila madaling matawa or ma impress, even with exaggerations... so you have to choose your material very well and get feedback along the way.

ENTONCES - go for challenging, go for gold, go for sitcom hehehehe ;-) at goodluck!!

i'd go for a combination of both. you can actually infuse both in one. they can pose in dance movements and at the same time be in a comedy/satyric set up. i think that would be more ground-breaking... with your lighting, production, hair and make-up, costume... i can imagine it already! can you? can you? diba, ang ganda?!

well, suggestion ko lang yan... it's still up to you to... go go go! supportado ta ka, bai! :P

Go for the more challenging one.:)

tapos hanap mo ng mas specific pag nakapili kna sa dalwa para mas specific yung market or traget buyer mo. Kase mahirap edefend pag medyo broad yun e. Para bawas butas sa defence.

very different kasi yung klase ng challenge na nakikita kong mafe-face ko sa pareho. dun sa dance, tingin ko mahihirapan ako when it comes to looking for dance events like concert or competitions para mag shoot plus jazz dancers para mashoot kapag planned shots. dun naman sa comedy, challenge to make people laugh so kailangan hindi basta basta yung ideas.

actually jazz dance has already been trimmed down by my adviser kasi yung original plan ko sana ballet, jazz and hip hop sa isang coffee table book kasi naisip ko na sa dance companies ngayon uso na ang halu-halong genres of dance. eh ayun sabi ni dean na magstick lang ako sa isa.... he doesn't like ballet dahil marami na ang ballet pagdating sa photography though sabi ni sir torres wala pang gumagawa ng dance photography. i know some girl sa section ni maam nacario right now who's gonna pursue ballet as her photography thesis topic.
